These creamy mashed potatoes are a quintessential comfort food with their smooth, velvety texture and rich flavor. Perfect as a side dish for any meal, they play the perfect supporting role to roast meats or a vegetarian feast. Infused with butter and cream, each bite offers a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth experience.

Ingredients:

Yield: 4-6 servings
2 pounds of Yukon Gold potatoes, which are known for their buttery texture, peeled and cut into large chunks
1/2 cup of unsalted butter, for that rich, indulgent flavor
1 cup of heavy cream, warmed to infuse creaminess
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Optional garnish: chopped fresh chives or parsley for a touch of color and flavor

Instructions:

Step 1
Begin by placing the peeled and chunked potatoes into a large pot. Cover them with cold, generously salted water, about 1-2 inches above the potatoes.
Step 2
Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a gentle simmer and cook the potatoes for about 15-20 minutes or until they are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
Step 3
While the potatoes are cooking, warm the heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat, ensuring it does not boil.
Step 4
Once the potatoes are ready, drain them well in a colander. Allow them to sit in the colander for a minute to let excess water evaporate.
Step 5
Return the potatoes to the pot or a large mixing bowl. Add in the butter, letting it melt from the heat of the potatoes.
Step 6
Using a potato masher or potato ricer, start mashing until the potatoes are smooth.
Step 7
Slowly add the warmed heavy cream to the potatoes, stirring continuously, until your desired creamy consistency is reached.
Step 8
Season the mashed potatoes generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning as preferred.
Step 9
If using, sprinkle with chopped fresh chives or parsley for an added layer of flavor and a pop of color.
Step 10
Serve the creamy mashed potatoes hot, alongside your main course, and enjoy their freshly whipped texture.
