This recipe is a delicious take on the classic American fried chicken that is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The secret is in the seasoned flour which gives it that crunchy texture and the spices that make it oh-so-tasty. Pair it with some coleslaw and you've got a meal that will have everyone coming back for seconds!
Ingredients:
Yield: 4-6 servings
4-6 bone-in chicken pieces (thighs, legs, or breasts)
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
Step 1
Start by cleaning and patting dry your chicken pieces. You can separate them into individual pieces or leave them whole, depending on your preference.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, paprika, salt, oregano, basil, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to make sure all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Step 3
Dip each chicken piece into the buttermilk, making sure to coat it well. Then, dredge it in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure to shake off any excess flour.
Step 4
Heat the vegetable oil in a large cast-iron skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F.
Step 5
Carefully add the chicken pieces to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and crispy on the outside and cooked through on the inside.
Step 6
Remove the chicken from the oil using tongs or a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack to cool for a few minutes.
Step 7
Serve hot with some coleslaw and your favorite dipping sauces. Enjoy!
