This tangy and chewy bread is made with a sourdough starter, giving it a unique flavor and texture. It's perfect for toasting and enjoying with butter or jam, or for making sandwiches and French toast.

Ingredients:

Yield: 1 loaf servings
1 cup sourdough starter
3 cups bread flour
1 cup warm water
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Instructions:

Step 1
Start by mixing the sourdough starter, bread flour and warm water in a large bowl until it forms a shaggy dough. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to an hour to let the flour absorb the water.
Step 2
Sprinkle the salt over the dough and use your hands to knead it for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until it becomes manageable.
Step 3
Place the dough in a clean, oiled bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise at room temperature for 6-8 hours or until it has doubled in size.
Step 4
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf or place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover it again with plastic wrap and let it rise for another 2-3 hours until it has doubled in size again.
Step 5
Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a baking stone or a sheet pan in the oven to preheat as well. If you're using a baking stone, place it on the bottom rack of the oven.
Step 6
Once the oven and the baking surface are hot, transfer the dough to the baking stone or sheet pan. If you're using a loaf pan, place the pan on the baking stone or sheet pan.
Step 7
Use a sharp knife or a razor blade to score the top of the dough in a crosshatched pattern. This will help the bread rise evenly and create a beautiful crust.
Step 8
Bake the bread for 30-40 minutes or until the crust is deep golden brown and the internal temperature of the bread reaches 190°F (88°C).
Step 9
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy the tangy and chewy flavor of your homemade sourdough bread!
