This vegan twist on the classic Southern sandwich includes crispy fried tofu, fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and a spicy vegan sauce between two toasted hoagie rolls. It's perfect for a vegan summer cookout or a satisfying lunchtime sandwich.
Ingredients:

1 lb extra firm tofu
1/2 cup all-purpose flour, seasoned with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and chili powder
1 quart almond milk
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
1/2 tsp lemon-bae seasoning
1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning
2 tbsp ketchup
1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise
1/4 cup chopped pickles
1 tsp sriracha
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce (vegan version)
Lemon juice
Hoagie rolls
Lettuce
Seasoned tomatoes
Instructions:
Step 1
Begin by pressing the extra firm tofu to remove excess water.
Step 2
Cut the tofu into small rectangular cubes.
Step 3
Prepare a seasoned flour mixture in a shallow dish (mix Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt and pepper into flour)
Step 4
In another shallow dish, whisk together almond milk, nutritional yeast, Cajun seasoning, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
Step 5
Dip each cube in flour mixture, then coat with the almond milk mixture, and dip again into the flour mixture.
Step 6
Fry the coated tofu cubes in a skillet with oil over medium heat until golden brown and crispy.
Step 7
In a small mixing bowl, prepare the vegan sauce by mixing ketchup, vegan mayonnaise, chopped pickles, sriracha, vegan Worcestershire sauce, and a splash of lemon juice.
Step 8
Slice the hoagie rolls and toast them lightly until golden brown.
Step 9
Spread the vegan sauce on both sides of the rolls.
Step 10
Lay lettuce, seasoned tomatoes, and fried tofu on each roll, making sure to pile it high.
